Our expertise

A pioneering strategy based on exclusive criteria

Axiom’s exclusive criteria ensure a high level of performance, allowing us to select animals with ever-greater precision and to efficiently and effectively evolve along with the swine industry.

ADGadc

This innovative indicator makes it possible to identify animals with both high growth potential and high feed efficiency.

Well-born index

This selection criterion makes it possible to assess animals’ behaviour during the maternity period.

Piglet quality

This set of indicators makes it possible to improve piglet uniformity and weight while reducing pre-weaning mortality.

ADGmatq

This unique criterion makes it possible to select sows with better maternal qualities and exceptional milk production.

Research & Development Strategy

Our selection strategy is based on one of the largest selection bases in the world. Our unique R&D approach, centred on ground-breaking tools and methods and criteria that are exclusive to Axiom, enable us to directly address your needs.

One of the largest selection bases in the world

Axiom boasts over 20 selection sites in France, including 4 fully-owned properties, as well as numerous pyramids abroad. This extensive connected network allows for the collection of a vast amount of data, which serves to enhance and enrich our selection strategy. This diversity makes it possible to precisely evaluate the genetic potential of our animals under extremely varied conditions.

650

An immense amount of data collected in France and worldwide.

28 000

This is the impressive number of boars tested in France and worldwide every year!

+40 M°

Individual data points collected and analysed with regard to the yield, carcass weight, classification, and taint of our boars.

The Azay centre

One of the largest boar testing centres in Europe
Located in Azay-sur-Indre, France, the Azay testing centre lies at the heart of our selection methodology and allows for assessments on feed efficiency and strength on all our selected sire and dam lines, all in one place. Its cutting-edge research tools make it possible to focus on developing new research agendas intended to reduce our carbon footprint, improve the well-being of our breeders, and reinforce their ability to adapt.

A strategy

based on 4 major selection principles
From fundamental research to the development of concrete applications, Axiom’s R&D approach is based on 4 principles that directly address pig producers’ economic and societal needs.

Maternal qualities

For large farrows of heavy, uniform piglets, and breeders suited to various breeding operation techniques

Feed efficiency

Greater profitability regardless of the food

Product quality

Meeting the needs of various markets

Immunity and strength

Express the full potential of animals under varied conditions

Exceptional sanitation protocols

Axiom is mindful of its customers’ health and safety obligations, and strives to meet and exceed even their highest expectations.

SPF selection sites

Greater biosecurity on our sites

Farms with air filtration systems

Transportation with air filtration systems

Scrupulous epidemiological monitoring on our sites

Technology

for genetics
In addition to its research, Axiom invests the very best of technology into developing exclusive tools.

BLUP

BLUP (managed by Axiom) is the ultimate reference method for evaluating the genetic value of breeders. This programme is connected to the various international pyramids, enabling 50,000 candidates to be evaluated each year.

Application of genomics

This complements and enhances the precision of the BLUP evaluation. Through genomics, the value of animals can be estimated more accurately using non-phenotypic criteria.
It is routinely applied to several sire and dam lines.

OCS

OCS, which stands for Optimal Contribution Selection, is an effective selection tool developed by Axiom that allows for significant genetic progress while controlling the evolution of the genetic inbreeding of our livestock.
