Team testimonial
We’re also seeing fewer small piglets in litters at weaning.
“The first Venus gilts were delivered a year ago. Even though performance was already very good, Dominique and Jérôme are satisfied with the new gilts.
The gilts are calmer than before. We were happy with our old genetics, but the gilts we have in farrowing today are even calmer. Whatever the genetics, each sow has its own character, and you have to take this into account to optimize performance. But we can go up to 18 piglets under the gilts after farrowing without worry.
Despite the increase in the number of weaners, the smallest piglets are getting heavier and prettier. The type of sows has changed, they’re sharper: they’re good milkers. But it’s going well, because they eat well.

Expert opinion

Typhaine GAULTIER, technical advisor to the Eureden pork group
“Dominique and Jérôme masterfully manage sow feeding. Dry feed distribution in the maternity unit allows sows to express their milk potential and maximize litter weight at weaning: over 120 kg average litter weight, while maintaining sow condition, which translates into remarkable reproductive performance and longevity. Since January 2023, all bands have weaned more than 14.6 piglets, and 2 bands have reached 15 weaned piglets, the target to be reached on an ongoing basis. “
