OUR SELECTION STRATEGY

At the heart of our selection strategy is one of the largest selection bases in the world. The R&D approach followed by our genetic experts ensures a direct response to your needs.

A LEADING SELECTION BASE

AXIOM has the largest selection base in France: 7000 sows spread over 20 selection sites. The selection is made in farms that are owned by AXIOM and with breeders that are under contract and who wish to provide their expertise to the AXIOM genetics.

R&D TAILORED TO THE MARKET

Our genetic experts are actively working on numerous R&D projects, both in-house and in collaboration with the best French and foreign institutes and universities.

Axiom’s R&D approach, from fundamental research to the development of concrete applications, is based on 4 axes that directly address your professional needs:

Maternal qualities*
Produce large litters of heavy, uniform and cost-effective pigs
*associated with sow behavior
Food efficiency
Greater profitability regardless of the food
Meat quality
Meeting the needs of various markets
Immunity and strength
Express the potential of animals under varied conditions

TECHNOLOGY FOR GENETICS

In addition to the research axes, AXIOM makes the most of technology by developing exclusive tools:

BLUP evaluation: A reference method for estimating the genetic value of a sire, managed by AXIOM. A program connected to the different pyramids in the world, which enables 50,000 candidates to be evaluated each year.

Application of genomics: complements and enhances the precision of the BLUP evaluation. Through genomics, the value of animals can be estimated more accurately on non-assessed criteria. Typically, it is routinely applied to several lineages.

OCS, Optimal Contribution Selection: an effective selection tool developed by AXIOM that allows for significant genetic progress while anticipating the evolution of the genetic inbreeding of the livestock.
